Theme Wednesday: Everyday Steampunk Jacket

Jacket: Handmade/Me/Simplicity 2525, Dress: DIY/Me, Boots: Custom Docs
"I am not impressed"

So this jacket did NOT turn out as planned! I wanted a pretty green wool bolero style jacket to wear to work sometimes, but the shoulders are a little too droopy and the sleeves are WAY too puffy for me to wear to work! It's still really adorable, but when I make the next one (because there WILL be a next one!) I will definitely have to adjust the shoulders and make the sleeves less fluffed up. After adding the lace applique, I realized that this would go perfect with my steampunk clothes and corset. So it wasn't a total DIY fail.

This is actually the same one my Party Poison jacket is made from. I do really like the pattern and the shape of the jacket on me, but it does need some help in the shoulder area. Also, I like how it goes together in less than a day! I made this jacket in about four hours.

This is a cute outfit, too. I think, if not to work, I would wear this out. Like on a date with the mister.

I'm keeping this post short, but trust me I'll be rambling in Friday's post! I've got lots to share with you guys.

Sorry about not having a Valentine's themed post for you! If you'd like to see some Valentine's inspiration from me, head over to the Phantastic Phinds blog and check out my Valentine's round up post.

  1. While I see your point on how the jacket could have been better, that's how we learn. With small adjustments, this could be perfect.

I'm so impressed at your DIY abilities. The dress is very cute. At first, based on your hand-position, I thought you were carrying a bag but now I see it's part of the dress.

  2. I still think it turned out pretty darn nice! And like Ally said, you at least still learned something and you can make it better the next time!! I do think this would make a nice date outfit for sure!

  3. Cute jacket but yeah I can see the shoulder issues. I have that problem--big chest & narrow shoulers so i have to make alterations alot in that area.
Which is why I love raglan sleeves--no shoulder seam!!
The dress is just so so CUTE!!!

  4. I like the fabric and doilie, and cute of the jacket. I agree the sleeves are off a bit. I think they need to be skinny (and longer or shorter) or extremely poofy instead of in-between. But I definitely think it's cute with the dress!

  5. Not a fail at all! It's totally cute! I love the fit in the bodice part, you definitely need another one. I also love how just a couple detail differences take you from punky to femme steam girl.
