Inspiration Tuesday: An Inspiring Birthday

I'm getting older, y'all!!

I cannot believe it's already time for my birthday. I get so excited about that- it's very much like my excitement for Christmas. I'm still secretly five years old in some ways! I get giddy over Christmas, my birthday and small fluffy toys. And fairies. That's okay, though. Everyone needs something to get giddy about.

Because this weekend is my B-day, I threw together a little ... "wish list" ? ... for this week's Inspiration Tuesday. It's not a true wish list because I honestly don't have any wishes! But if I had a few extra dollars or some extra time, these are the things I'd buy/craft. :-) Enjoy!

I love this little owl USB necklace. It's kind of cheesy, but I love owls and I love the idea of backing up my book and wearing it around my neck. :-)

This shifty tunic from Free People is dark, romantic and looks easy to wear (like one of those outfits that feels so comfy it's like pajamas?). I love it a lot, but I do feel like it would be easy to DIY. What do you think?

I love everything about this outfit- the awesome black and silver top, the long pink cardi (OH GOSH THAT CARDI) and the grey jeans with the studded boots.

One of my little promises to myself this year is to start treating myself better. I've stopped doing things like painting my nails or wearing make up, and I would really like to start again. I need to be nicer to my own body, and little things like home manicures can be a real pick-me-up sometimes! I love the color of this lady's nail polish.

If I could buy myself one thing for my birthday, I think this would be it. New Dr Marten Triumphs. The color is listed as Navy, but they look to be almost purple and they have purple laces and grommets. SWOON!

I have a passionate love of peasant shirts (as you may have noticed). Sometimes I get a little sick of tee shirts and peasant shirts are a great alternative- especially for work. They make me feel romantic and poetic and pretty, and they look good with jeans or a corset. I'm currently working on my own pattern so I can make a bunch- and I love the fabric on the one pictured above. Very cute.

I love tote bags. They are my favorite type of purse. I really adore plaid, too, and this tote here has leather straps that look long enough to wear on your shoulder (I've had a ton of problems lately with totes not having long enough straps).

I would wear this dress so hard, but I would probably get mistaken for a kid. (Last week some woman who knocked on my door asked me if my parents or an adult were home so she could talk to them. Seriously?!) I really love the applique on this dress and it's inspiring me to start fixing up some of the things in my closet.

So is this a combo of two of my favorite things-  shabby chic and goth? I think so! I really like this long necklace, and I REALLY like the ruching on the top. And the tulle and the fact that it's all black. Well, really I just love the whole damn outfit (and it would look amazing with those purple docs... just sayin').

Can I just say how much I love this quote from the lead singer of my favorite band ever? Sometimes you need to be reminded that you are armed with the necessary tools to fight your everyday battles, right?

The two dresses above make me so happy! I love the colors and details, and I think they would be so cute in winter and spring! The fabrics used are just adorable, too. I love it. Love love love.

And finally, THIS. I. WANT. THIS. OUTFIT! So much it HURTS. HOW perfect is all of this? I really love the vest. I think that is my favorite part - that long crinkly vest looks so prim and proper and kind of tomboyish all at the same time. If I could wear anything on my birthday (especially with those boots above) I would wear this outfit. Ugh. Perfection.

So that is my little list of things that are inspiring me on my birthday this year! I'm trying to convince the boyfriend to take me to see The Hobbit because I've seen all the LOTR movies in theaters and I just CANNOT miss this one. :-)

Hope your week is going well! See you all later!

  4. At first I was like "oooh that black outfit" and then I went OMG THAT LAST ONE GIMME NAO. Happy Birthday, Meghan. I highly suggest going to see the Hobbit, I want to go see it again, because it's just that pretty.

  7. Happy Birthday!

    Lots of beautiful things here!

You totally have the 'dark, romantic shifty tunic' covered. I can so see one of your DIYs looking like this.

Ditto on the plaid and that vest! I think the next jacket/vest/steampunk bodice I make has to be double breasted and side-fastened like that. I quite enjoyed the asymmetrical I did last time round, but this... drool.
