Dream Outfits: Festival Necklaces

Last week was my manager's birthday and I wanted to make her something special. While I was looking for inspiration on pinterest, I kept finding necklaces made out of painted keys! I happened to have some metal keys left from Meg's Ragged Edge on Etsy, so I decided to take some pretty nail polish and try this out.

It just so happens, though, that this became a dream outfit post! I've been in love with the Free People looks all summer and one of the things I've noticed is the girls at Free People wear these super long necklaces (I've been calling them festival necklaces) that are usually made out of special or thrifted trinkets. I decided that while I was making keys, I would make a few of these long necklaces for myself. I wanted to keep in the neon and wildlife themes. Here's what I got.

In progress shot. I think I need a new camera because even on macro it doesn't like to take pictures of small things.
I kept this Presto one for myself because I love NJ and PA things. (Since I live there.) Also, I love purple.

Now, this is a festival necklace I already had. I made it. I just thought it was so pretty I would show it to you while I was photographing the keys! I got the moon and the blue feather on random trips with my mom and the tiger's eye was a gift from my grandmother.

Here are my new festival necklaces all in a row. I've got some painted keys with charms, a shell from a beach trip with my mom, wolves, my new mermaid and the Presto key!

Detail Shot: That one with the rose used to be a spoon. I got it from an etsy store

Wolf, Fox, Bear and KEYS!
I've already gotten a lot of wear out of these guys and I'm so happy with how they turned out! Maybe I'll make a few for the old etsy shop, which I'd love to start up again even though it's been wicked busy around here.

What projects are you up to this week?

  1. These are really cool! My fav is the old fashioned looking key that's long & skinny. I've do nothing much this week craft wise:( too much work on and too much socialising!

  2. This is a really good refashioning idea! I just did a quick paperdoll for the fabulous WendyBrandes, but otherwise I'm supposed to be doing homework. Eep! Hopefully when I catch up on that I can plan some more fun projects.

  4. Trees- I'll have to remember to send you one of the keys. I have a bunch of those long gold ones. :-) I'm too tired to socialize, and so I make.

Megan- Thank you! I'm about to get sucked into homework land. Well, better to do it all in one night than to have to do it later in the week when I'll want to sew.

Stacey- Thank you!!!!!!!!!!! :-) I love them so much.
