OOTD: Harlequin

Harlequin

Honest to blog I typed that there because I wasn't sure how to spell it and I was waiting for spell check.

This is another one of my new drapey tees that I made in an unusual all-black outfit post. I was trying to go for "work appropriate" punk rocker. So red hair and all black it is! Also, if I wear a black shirt, the leaks from my dye won't show up so much. (Neverending Solo shirt might have a little pink around the edges now- Oh Falcor!)

These shirts are just a touch too big but it's not worth resizing them at this point. Especially because I'm not sure what is going on but my serger is being mean to me. I think the tension on one of the bobbins is loose so I'm going to have to mess with it when my boyfriend and I get back next week.

We're going to his parents this weekend!

I know! It's like, his family came here two weeks ago and now it's our turn to go there. :-) SO fun.

Chucks: Journeys, Jeggings: AE, Tee: Reconstructed by Me, Necklaces: Me!

If I were wearing a skirt, the sequence of these photos would be a laugh riot.

Close Up - You can see the creepy harlequin and bird on my shirt. LOVE IT.
I wonder if this counts as a travel tee? It is from Fort Meyers (where ever the eff that is- I got this at Goodwill).

I don't stalk many bead companies or vendors or bead artists, but I'd like to tell you about the necklace you can almost see in this pic because her beads are FABULOUS! I became a sucker for pewter beads and pendants in my sophomore year of high school. I bought a pewter lion wearing a crown at a local Renaissance Faire in Maryland because he reminded me of Aslan and I was hooked! Pewter could be polished, it didn't make me break out and the artistry in pewter work was beautiful! It also had that antique look that I love.

A few years ago, around 2008 or 2009, a friend and I went to Fairy Con while it was still in Philly (BRING IT BACK!). It was AMAZING! One of the few souvenirs I purchased, though, were three beads and some silk cord. It was a mermaid wearing a spiked helmet, a heart with a compass on the front and "follow" on the back, and a little key all made in pewter. These were by Green Girl Studios. I then discovered that the local bead shop in Chestnut Hill, Bumble Beads, had some of their pieces!! (This was years ago- I don't know if they still have them.) I bought the above charm which looks like a little pewter Russian doll with "courage" written on the back and made the necklace I'm wearing in the picture.

I love the hidden messages carved onto the back of her pieces. It reminds me of Necklace of Kisses when Cherokee Bat sews messages into her clothes, little spells and good wishes.

The most reasonable place I've found on etsy that carries these beads, and I do want to buy more!!, is Beadlady. I have way too many favorites to even start- the howling moon, the sacred heart, the skull with wings, the conch shell, the mermaid- UGH! THE HARPY!! Seriously, check out these beautiful pieces. They are amazing and I love the ones I own.

I'll have a few more posts for you before I head off to the Boyfriend's mothership parent's house with him.

UPDATED: look! THIS is the mermaid wearing a helmet that I bought. Isn't it cute!?!

  1. Oh my blog, tee hee, that made me laugh:) This is a great, and little bit punk rock, look for work. I must look at those beads, they sound awesome. I love jewellery that has little surprises, I once had a necklace with a wee coffin charm and when you opened it there was a skeleton inside.

  2. LOVE your hair color. Also thanks for the link to the etsy shop. I added a few to my favorites. I especially love the little curled up dragon. Pewter is a fantastic material. I used to have a triquetra that belonged to my mom. Unfortunately it got lost in various moves.
